Texas Boll Weevil Case Study

Texas Bool Weevil Eradication Foundation (TBWEF) incorporates Temeda and ESRI to monitor asset location, sprayer engagement and chemical coverage in the battle against the boll weevil.

Led by Western Data Systems, an authorized distributor of Temeda products and services, the TBWEF uses Temeda technology to gain insight into its eradication fleet and equipment.

The Boll Weevil Eradication Program, sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is one of the world’s most successful implementations of an integrated pest management program. Cotton farmers have been able to reduce their use of pesticides by anywhere between 40% and 100% and increase their yield by 10% since the program began. The first full implementation began in Virginia and South Carolina in 1978 and spread west. By the early 90’s Texas Cotton Producers, Incorporated working with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and drafted a Boll Weevil Eradication plan for the State of Texas.
